About Peterborough Fire & Rescue

Mission:
Our mission is to provide quality and caring service to those who live in or visit our community.  As professionally trained and competent personnel, we strive to minimize the loss of life and property through education, prevention, and control of hazardous situations.

Who We Are:
The Peterborough Fire & Rescue Association (PFR) is a on call organization consisting of approximately 47 Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) members, many of whom serve in both fields.

Peterborough Fire & Rescue is lead by Chief Joseph Lenox III.  He is assisted by assisted by ten officers. The only full time employee is the Chief.

We have an active Auxiliary Membership as well as an Explorer Post 808, that helps train youths between the ages of 14 and 21 who are interested in firefighting and EMS.  Our diverse makeup of personnel includes area natives and newcomers, men and women, young and old.

Where We Are:
The PFR is stationed at 16 Summer Street in Downtown Peterborough, New Hampshire.  Housed there is some of the most sophisticated equipment available for today's firefighting and EMS demands.

What We Do:
The PFR proudly provides fire protection to over 6,000 people living in the 52 square mile area of Peterborough and Sharon.  The department also provides emergency medical services to Peterborough, Sharon, Dublin, Francestown, Greenfield, and Hancock.  The department also helps cover neighboring towns in emergency situations.

By way of radio page from the Southwestern New Hampshire District Fire Mutual Aid System, firefighter and EMS personnel are notified of a call for help and respond to the Peterborough Station.   The PFR responds to over 1350 calls each year.

Members of the department undergo continual training to maintain and expand their skills.  We also have a strong commitment to the community with regard to public education.   Members also visit local schools to help familiarize children with fire prevention and EMS awareness.

Aquarius Fire Museum and Remembrance Walkway
The Peterborough Fire Rescue Association operates the Aquarius No.1 Fire Museum, which is located next door to the Peterborough Fire Station, at 14 Summer . This museum houses equipment used in the Town of Peterborough. The museum may be visited whenever the station is manned, Sunday mornings or by appointment.

Adjacent to the museum is the Remembrance Walkway, composed of red bricks personally engraved to honor, recognize and remember loved ones, friends, businesses and associations.  It serves as a means to raise funds to contribute to the cost of upkeep of the museum and its collection.

Local Events
The Peterborough Fire Department has a Penny Sale in June as a fund raiser.  Every October we hold an open house at the fire station to which we invite the entire community.  Members also visit local schools to train children in fire prevention.  We are present for local school events such as championship parades, as well as town parades and events during holidays and festivities.
