150^th Anniversary Celebration

This summer, Peterborough Fire & Rescue members and citizens of Peterborough will celebrate the 150^th anniversary of this special day.  The festivities will take place on Saturday July 8, 2006 and Peterborough residents and businesses are invited to commemorate the day with us.

 Since its founding, Peterborough Fire & Rescue has undergone a name change, the fire station has moved, and membership has increased.  Call volume has increased and firefighters and rescue workers are expected to deal with many different types of emergencies using 21^st century technology.  However the heart of PFR remains the same:  Peterborough residents, dedicated to the safety of their community, volunteering their time to serve.  PFR will celebrate this tradition in its 150^th Anniversary Celebration this summer.  The festivities are beginning to take shape.

 The day-long event will begin with a parade at 10 am, which will display antique fire apparatus from all across the state.  Following the parade will be a number of exciting events, including:

 
*    Antique fire apparatus pumping and displays.  The parade is also open to modern fire apparatus

*    Temple and American Legion Band performances

*    NH 6th Regiment reenactment and camp display

*    Business and non-profit organization displays and activities

 *   Intergovernmental displays, food, and activities

*    Memorial celebrations

*    “Peterborough Verbatim,” a local play performed at the Town Hall the evening of Friday, July 7, 2006

*    A Fireworks display on the evening of July 8, 2006 at ConVal High School.  The gates will open at 5pm with local band Dave and the Daddy-O’s.

PFR is extremely excited about this event.  A special committee has been in place for over a year to oversee the planning of this event.  Watch the papers for new information regarding this special celebration.  If you want to volunteer your help, please contact the fire station.
